In the Solitude of Cotton Fields in Prague 21.06.2025
"If you are walking at this hour and in this place, you must be looking for something—and I am sure I can help you with that."
A dealer and a customer meet in The Solitude of Cotton Fields in the dead of night, at an abstract location. A verbal probing begins, yet what the transaction is about—what is being bought or sold—remains in the shadows. Instead, the audience witnesses a dangerous dialogue in virtuoso language, exploring desire and fulfillment, emotion and knowledge, power and sexuality.
Russian directing prodigy Timofey Kulyabin, making his debut at the Hybernia Theatre Prague, places the unspeakable—the societal taboo—at the center of his production. Desire as shame, love as longing and impossibility, trade as the dominant modality of human relationships: U.S. Hollywood star John Malkovich and award-winning Lithuanian-British actress Ingeborga Dapkūnaitė masterfully and grippingly navigate one of modernity's most enigmatic works in shifting roles.
